It All Started In 1744

The Bickleys, notable British shipping merchants, migrated here during the Revolutionary War and set out to build their family estate on 100 acres of unclaimed land. The Bickleys affectionately called the property Belle Voir, which is French for “beautiful view.”

The Start

Originally built as home to the Bickley Family, who were wealth shipping merchants in Penryn, England. Having come to “America” to support the British, it makes sense why they settled along the Delaware River.

The American Family

Having lost the war, the Bickley Family became very unpopular and eventually sold the estate to the Drexel Family, who then married into the Wharton Family.

Ruins

In the late 80s the estate was the Pen Ryn School, located now in Fairless Hills, PA. After moving locations, the property was repossessed by the township and laid dormant for over 10 years. With no one caring for it, the estate soon became unrecognizable, with all its charm and character left to rot. However, in 1993 we made settlement and with a great deal of hope and faith, we began to bring this estate back to its original grandeur.

Our History Begins

After a painstaking two year renovation, we held our first wedding in July 1995. Pen Ryn Mansion was about to be filled once again with life and love!

The Carriage House

Sitting on the estate was not just the Pen Ryn Mansion but also the carriage house. After growing in popularity for nearly a decade, we felt it was time to expand our business and now renovate the property’s existing carriage house. Belle Voir, meaning “beautiful view” in French, was historically what the property was referred to, which seems like a natural choice for a name. After about a year of renovations, Belle Voir held its first event in 2006.

The Third Sister

Fast forward nearly two decades later, with Pen Ryn Mansion and Belle Voir Manor at max capacity on bookings, we felt it was yet again time to add to the family. Having been able to acquire the land for a tented venue, we broke ground in March 2020 and held our first event in August 2020. River’s Edge is a unique and tranquil location as it rests just 100-yards from the Delaware River waterfront.

The Family

Pen Ryn Mansion, Belle Voir Manor and River’s Edge host over 300 weddings per year together. Distinctly different but alike in grandeur, each venue has something for everyone.

My wedding was absolutely perfect and it is all thanks everyone at Pen Ryn! Colin was amazing on my wedding day. He was always there if needed help. He really made the day go smooth! Denyse was a pleasure talking to you and I am thankful for her help during the planning process. Brittany (our bridal attendant) is the most amazing human on the planet. We can’t thank her enough. Me and my husband still talk about how amazing she is. She was always by my side to get me anything I needed. There wasn't a moment I didn't have a drink in my hand. But really, I couldn’t have asked for a better venue and a better group of people to help me along the way. I will be forever grateful! 10/10! GET MARRIED HERE

All of the staff at Pen Ryn Estate were wonderful to work with! They promptly responded to my emails, calls, and answered any questions that came up during the wedding planning process. My husband and I were especially grateful for our event coordinators Alec and James and our attendant Dom! They took care of everything so that we didn't have to do ANY setting up or breaking down of decor or other tasks on our wedding day. They also made sure that we stayed on schedule, ate, stayed hydrated during the hot June day, and got to truly enjoy our day with our guests. This was mine and my husband's first event at Pen Ryn Estate and we cannot say enough positive things about our experience! We had an amazing experience with Pen Ryn for our wedding. Ours was at the newest venue River’s Edge and it was beautiful. The venue is right on the river and is breathtaking. Our guests could not stop telling us how beautiful and incredible it was. My favorite part was the lighting in the tent, it was so pretty! Colin and Shauna and the staff were great and made sure we ate as the couple and had everything we needed.
They were great about finding is a rescheduled date due to Covid and we couldn’t be more happy with how our day turned out. We wish we could relive it everyday! Thank you so much to the team at Pen Ryn for making our wedding dream a reality.
